# The story behind Polderburn

## Pure nostalgia

Polderburn started from pure nostalgia. Danny de Kruijk missed the direct, characterful racing games he grew up with and wanted to create a game that feels unmistakably Dutch. Matrix signs, polders, rain, police, trains, viaducts and recognisable motorway chaos give it its own identity.

## The browser challenge

Danny's experience in web development makes Polderburn an especially enjoyable technical challenge: how exciting would it be if a full 3D racing game could be played directly in a browser? Polderburn brings web development, design, music, performance and game feel together without requiring a traditional game download. It uses Three.js and WebGPU to render the road, traffic, weather, reflections, damage and police systems in the browser.

## A2 Racer, Davilex and Burnout Paradise

A2 Racer by Davilex is a childhood classic for Danny because it made familiar Dutch roads, police and humour feel like a game world. Burnout Paradise later showed how immediate and liberating an arcade racing game could feel.

Polderburn does not recreate either game. Those memories are a starting point for a new game with its own world, technology and identity. The game uses the Dutch A2 motorway, matrix signs, polders, rain, police, trains and viaducts to create a recognisable setting.

Polderburn is not affiliated with or endorsed by Davilex, Electronic Arts, Criterion Games, A2 Racer or Burnout Paradise. Those names describe personal inspiration and historical context only.

## Direction

Polderburn is in Early Access. The current game is playable, but it is not presented as finished. Possible future directions include more stages and cars, a career system, upgrades, ghost racing, computer-controlled opponents and eventually multiplayer. These are ambitions, not fixed release promises.

The free trial remains available. Players who buy lifetime Early Access support ongoing development and receive the content that is actually released within this Early Access edition, under the published terms.
